It has a thin, elongated snout, and can grow to be 16ft long! <i>Gavialis<\/i> is interesting scientifically because its evolutionary relationship to other crocodylians has been difficult to resolve as differences occur if you use either morphological or molecular\/combined (morphological + molecular) data.<\/p>\n<p>For my masters thesis, I examined the braincase of <i>Gavialis<\/i> and other crocodylian species, and used geometric morphometrics to analyze shape changes within the braincase for the clade. I was interested in testing whether the braincase held phylogenetically informative data, so that the relationships of this species could be better understood.<\/p>\n<p>______________________<\/p>\n<p>El <i>Gavialis gangeticus<\/i> es un especie de crocodyliano de India en peligro de extinci\u00f3n. Tiene un hocico largo y delgado, y puede llegar a medir mas de 5 metros! El <i>Gavialis<\/i> es interestante para la ciencia porque sus relaciones evolutivas con otros crocodylianos han sido dificiles de resolver porque se producen diferencias si se usan datos morfol\u00f3gicos o datos combinados (morfol\u00f3gicos + moleculares).<\/p>\n<p>Para la tesis de mi maestr\u00eda, examin\u00e9 el cranio de <i>Gavialis<\/i> y de otros crocodylianos, y use morfometria geom\u00e9trica para analizar los cambios en el clado dentro del cr\u00e1neo.
